Publication of Trade Barriers within Africa
Project
Imani completed a project on trade barriers within Africa. Titled “Hobbled Trade:How Africa creates its own trade barriers” the study considers some of the fundamental issues that inhibit African countries from experiencing the benefits of trade. Even if the World Trade Organization fails to secure a deal whereby African countries would have greater access to world markets (especially those in wealthy countries), there are still many market opportunities that are ripe for the taking within African countries.
These opportunities include increasing the extent and breadth of intra-African trade, and more broadly, viewing trade as a positive (not zero-sum) game whereby countries benefit from both exports and imports. If you want to support the publication of this project, please email

The Eureka Project
The 2005 world ranking of the best Universities had for successive years no African University. One of the reasons is content-deficient research due to famished libraries. Imani is collaborating with the International Policy Network and distinguished authors and Nobel Laureates and Laureate Nominees and the to use innovative ways of providing literature on economics, politics, philosophy and history.
The Eureka Project is therefore an attempt to fill a serious knowledge gap that exists in poor countries. We may wonder why so little use is made of certain institutions in so many countries but we should not be surprised because there is virtually no access to literature about these institutions in so many parts of the world. These are institutions which we understand to be prerequisites for prosperity; limited government; the rule of law, supported by an independent and effective judiciary; the protection of private property and free markets.
With available funds, we will hold day-long seminars on the CDs in the Universities. Eventually, we will rein in the media as well as we plan to create an Imani University in the future through these mediums.
